Political tension has been  mounting in the region for the past two weeks, following clashes between IUML and SDPI workers. Four youths had suffered serious injuries in a bomb explosion near Kunnothuparamba panchayat office last week. Amidst SDPI and IUML raising allegations against each other, four IUML workers were arrested in connection with the bomb explosion in the last two days. “All arrested persons are sympathisers of the Muslim League,” Panur CI Jayan Dominic said. Shafeeque, 19, son of Maummy Haji, Pottantavide House, Central Poyiloor; Kuttiyil

Mustafa, 23, son of Moosa, Kuttiyil House, Central Poyiloor; Kolangarath Ashraf, 23, son of Ibrahim Haji, Kolangarath House, Central Poyiloor and Mansoor, 22, son of Mahamood, Mandotiyantavide House, Central Poyiloor, are the arrested. “The four other persons who have been admitted to a private hospital in Kozhikode with severe injuries in the bomb explosion are also accused in the case. Except one, who has SDPI links, all others are sympathisers of the League,” police personnel at the Panur CI office said.

The arrested persons had provided steel carriers and `5,000 to the other four injured persons to make bombs, they said. “Clashes between AP and EK Sunni groups have been prevalent in the region for quite a while and the bombs were made by youngsters to scare the opponents. From the statements of the youths it could be presumed that they made bombs without the knowledge of party leaders,” said the cops.

In another incident, the CPM branch office at Kadavathur was set ablaze by miscreants the other day. Kolavalloor police said that the CPM office at Kadavathoor was set blaze by a suspected gang of 11 BJP workers.
