THRISSUR: The Thrissur police on Friday took into custody a 24-year-old youth in connection with the murder of a 45-year-old woman inside the compartment of a train that halted at the Kannur railway station on October 20. The police have identified him as Suresh Kannan, native of Kamakshipuram in Tamil Nadu.
According to the police, the woman, who was a sex worker, got acquainted with the youth at Kozhikode. After spending time with her, he persuaded the victim, Fathima, of Kondotti in Malappuram, to go to Goa with him. She however refused the offer and picked up a quarrel with him saying she had another appointment and boarded the train from Kannur railway station avoiding him. Following this, he returned later with a bottle of petrol, pouring it over her and set her on fire.
