7.5 kg of Gold Seized at CIAL

ALUVA: The officers of Air Intelligence unit, Customs, intercepted an illegal shipment of smuggled gold worth close to `2 crore from Cochin International Airport on Wednesday. “By our estimation, this is one of the biggest cases of contraband caught in any Kerala airport this year,” said Customs Commissioner Dr K N Raghavan.  Mohammad Ilyas, aged 25 years and hailing from Kasargod, was arrested on Wednesday at the exit gate of the Arrival Hall after he disembarked a Qatar Airways flight from Dubai at 9 am. The passenger had answered in negative to the question whether he carried contraband goods.
