Rs 31-cr Project for Protection of Rivers

PATHANAMTHITTA: Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash has said the government would implement `31-crore projects for the rejuvenation and protection of rivers in the state.Addressing a news conference here on Saturday, Adoor Prakash said as part of the rejuvenation and protection of rivers, check-dams, bridges and river protection walls would be set up.

The Minister said that for conducting studies and research on rivers, State River Research Institute would also be set up. A `10-crore research institute will come up in Kochi, he said.

The decision for the river management projects and the formation of the research institute was taken at the hi-powered committee chaired by him in Thiruvananthapuram the other day, he said.

The bridges under the river rejuvenation projects would be set up at Kaipattoor, Muripara, Chittoormukku and Chittoorkadavu in Pathanamthitta district, Arumanoor and Chavuttuvelikadavu in Kottayam.
