Govt Issues Order Suspending PWD Secretary T O Sooraj

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government on Monday issued an order placing PWD Secretary T O Sooraj under suspension. Local Self-Government Secretary A P M Mohammed Hanish has been given the additional charge of the PWD Secretary.

The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) had earlier registered a disproportionate assets case against the official. According to the agency, the official amassed illegal assets worth `1,81,54,703.

The VACB also recommended disciplinary action against the official to avoid his possible interference in the probe. Chief Minister and Home Minister had approved VACB recommendation two days ago.

The VACB’s initial estimate on the illegal assets of Sooraj was based on an examination of records between October 1, 2004 and October 31, 2014. However, the officials said, the Rs 1.81 crore figure would go up as his income was calculated without considering the cuts.
