Colourful Start to District Kalolsavam

KOCHI: The 27th Revenue District Kalolsavam began in Tripunithura on Saturday with a grand procession. Deputy director of Education M K Shinemon hoisted the flag at Layam ground, the main venue.

Excise Minister K Babu inaugurated. Around 5000 students participated in the procession that began at the Tripunithura Sanskrit Higher Secondary School ground and concluded at the Layam ground.

The highlights of the procession were folk songs, band performances and students in fancy costumes.

Ernakulam Girls’ High School students showcased a ‘Panchavadyam’ performance. Minister K Babu presented mementos to Vishnudas who designed the Kalolsavam logo and Rohit Paul of Kottapady Mar Elias Higher Secondary School who designed the website during the event.

The Kalolsavam which will begin on Monday will be held across sixteen venues including Government Boys’ High school, Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Mission LPS, St Mary’s LPS, Sanskrit College, Palace High School, St Joseph’s and Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School.

The traditional ‘Chavittunaadakam’ and a band performance will also be a part of the competitions held on the day.

Municipal chairman R Venugopal presided over the function.

Sajeendran MLA, Maradu municipality chairman P K Devarajan, District Panchayat Education Standing Committee chairman K K Soman, Philothama Suresh, Shakunthala Jayakumar, M I Augustine, M K Ravindranath and Sabu Varghese were also present.
