300 Sacks of PDS Rice Seized

KOLLAM:The East Police the other day seized 300 sacks of ration rice and arrested a person in connection with this. The arrested has been identified as Baiju, 35, of Ernakulam.

According to police, each sack weighed around 50 kg and the lorry, in which the ration rice was being transported illegally, was taken into custody from Taluk Junction.

“While checking the vehicle at the Taluk Junction, the police demanded the lorry driver to stop the vehicle but he sped away.

We later chased him and caught him at Nellimukku. During interrogation, we felt suspicious and based on a tip-off that it was ration rice, we informed the District Taluk Supply Officer. The officer ascertained that it was ration rice,” said U P Vipin Kumar, SI, East Police Station.

The officer said that raid will be conducted on  godowns which procure ration rice.

As per police sources, these godowns were operating from Eravipuram, Parippally and Pallimukku.
