THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Election Commission informed the government on Friday that it would not be possible to introduce e-voting facility for Non-resident Keralites for the upcoming local body polls.The government had sought the commission’s view on the introduction of e-voting facility.
The State Election Commission informed the government that though the implementation of online voting was not possible, NRKs would be provided with the facility to cast their votes from their respective local body constituencies.The poll panel pointed out that the various voting options that could be provided to Non-resident Indians were being considered by the Supreme Court.
Since the newly-elected local body representatives had to assume charge by November 1, the implementation of the e-voting facility in such a short period was not possible, SEC said.
It also pointed out that converting the exhaustive list of candidates contesting in over 22,000 constituencies in electronic format and making it available for voting within the next two months was not practical.
