Power cable snaps, dairy farmer electrocuted

KANHANGAD: A dairy farmer was electrocuted when he came in contact with a snapped power cable at Pakkam near Bekal on Wednesday.


The victim, Padinjatil Narayanan Nair (55) of Charalkadav at Pakkam, is also a local leader of the Congress. His two cows also died in the accident.


Family members said Nair had taken his three cows out for grazing in the morning when the accident happened. The snapped live cable wire was covered in grass and puddles, and he did not see and came in contact with it. One of the cows managed to escaped .


His wife Sulochana, who had accompanied him up to half way, rushed back on hearing the cries of the cow, they said. She saw her husband and the two cows entangled in the live wire. She used a wooden pole to extricate Nair and alerted the neighbours.


He was taken to the hospital, where he was declared brought dead.


Nair was the president of INTUC, Palikara mandalam, and secretary of Janashree, Pallikara mandalam.

 
He is survived wife Sulochana, and daughters Nayana and Ayana.
