KOCHI: A senior civil police officer was on Thursday placed under suspension following his failure to register a case and initiate further action in connection with the clash involving two groups in the city.
Kochi Range IG S Sreejith issued the order suspending K R Rajagopal attached to Ernakulam North Police Station. And the action against the CPO came in the wake of a report lodged by the Special Branch, which conducted a preliminary inquiry into the incident.
The skirmish had occurred at Ponothu Road near Kaloor on December 3 night. Mohammed Arfas, hailing from Kalamassery, had sustained severe injuries on his head and body in the flare-up. Subsequently, he approached North police station but the officers were reluctant to lodge a case. Besides, they failed to get the youth admitted to a nearby hospital.
