Teen gangrape victim dies at Kottayam MCH

KOCHI: The 14-year-old girl, who had been raped by three of her father’s friends, breathed her last at the Government Medical College Hospital(MCH), Kottayam, on Monday. According to the officials, the girl had been undergoing treatment at the hospital for cerebral ailments.
 She was admitted to the hospital on November 26 and died on Monday morning, said MCH authorities. The body was handed over to relatives after autopsy.

“The actual cause of the death can be established only after receiving the postmortem report. If needed, fresh charges would be brought against the perpetrators,” said Kalamassery SI E V Shibu.
The incident had taken place on September 14 while the girl was alone at her residence. According to police, the girl was ill and taking rest when the trio forced themselves on her.The incident came to light when the girl disclosed the incident during a counselling session. It emerged that the accused entered the house on the pretext of meeting the girl’s father before raping her. Later, the police arrested the accused, who were booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. Presently, the accused are lodged in prison after being remanded in  judicial custody.

The girl had slipped into a state of mental depression after the incident. Following counselling, the girl was treated at Government Medical College Hospital, Kalamassery, police said. Her father died one month ago, while her mother is employed as a domestic help.
