KOTTAYAM: It might be a rare coincidence. But for Malayalam cine-goers it could be a shocker.

While the shoot of a Malayalam mega hit murder mystery ‘Drishyam’ was progressing in Thalayolaparamb near Kottayam, a similar incident in real life had happened a few years ago, at a stone’s throw away from the shooting location.

The untold story of a ‘Drishyam’ model murder of a financier, hailing from Thalayolaparamb, which had happened in 2008, was unravelled after police arrested the accused in a fake currency case two months ago.

According to police, Aneesh, 38, hailing from Chettiyamveed, T V Puram, near Vaikom had murdered Mathew, 44, of Kalayil house in Thalayolaparamb in connection with some financial dealings between them. Aneesh, who was then running a business related to vehicle stickers had killed Mathew at his shop and buried the body in the backside of a building.

Subsequently, à la ‘Drishyam’, a new building was constructed at the same place after destroying the old one.

The realities were unfolded eight years after the incident had taken place through a letter, sent by Aneesh’s friend, who is in jail.

According to reports, the letter, which mentioned about the murder, was received by Aneesh’s father Vasu, who passed the information to victim’s daughter Nicy, who then lodged a complaint at Thalayolaparamb police station on December 4. Nicy also placed call records with Vasu.

Aneesh reportedly confessed the crime during interrogation as well.

However, though police started excavation inside the building from Wednesday morning they could not unearth the body till late evening. The police officials said that they would continue the exercise till they get vital evidence regarding the murder.
