Unaccounted money worth about Rs 40 lakh seized in Kerala

MALAPPURAM: The Tirur police on Saturday seized unaccounted money worth about Rs 40 lakh, including Rs 34 lakh in new Rs 2000 currencies, and arrested a hawala dealer and his aide in connection with it.

Sanish Babu, 34, from Vattthur, Melattur, and Shoukath Ali, 54, Maanarkad, were held after the police learnt that they were possessing Rs 39 lakh unaccounted cash.

The police first took Shoukath into custody while he was distributing money to the tune of Rs 5 lakh in Tirur.

Later the police launched a raid and picked up Sanish from Mannarkkad and found nearly Rs 34 in new currencies stashed away in the house.
