KOLLAM: The 132nd foundation day celebrations of the Congress in Kerala were marred by infighting between supporters of Rajmohan Unnithan, former Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee spokesman, and K Muraleedharan, MLA.

As Unnithan’s car was about to enter the Kollam DCC office fort the foundation day celebrations, followers of Muraleedharan blocked him and threw eggs and stones at his vehicle, which shattered the windshield.

The incident was a near replay of an event 12 years ago in Thiruvananthapuram when Rajmohan Unnithan and another Congress leader Sarath Chandra Prasad were manhandled by party workers. The offenders smashed the windscreen of his car and tore Unnithan’s dhoti, leaving him stranded in his undergarments.

Talking to media persons after Wednesday’s attack, Unnithan said he would file a complaint with the Kollam East Police and with the KPCC. “K Muraleedharan is the person behind the attack. The Congress party must seriously think about Muraleedharan continuing in the party,” Unnithan said.

DCC  president Bindu Krishna said an internal inquiry would be ordered into the attack.
