MALAPPURAM : Nedumkayam colony in the Karulazhi panchayat, Nilambur, became the first fully-digital tribal colony in the country.

The project to make the district fully-cashless-the Digital Malappuram, Cashless Malappuram- turned instrumental in  this accomplishment.

District Collector Amit Meena made the announcement at a function held at the Nedumkayam colony. Introducing the service to the colony dwellers, the Collector said this would go long way in addressing the cash crunch being faced them. As part of the programme, a class on cashless transactions was conducted for the colony dwellers.

Besides, the community centre of the colony was made WI-FI enabled with the assistance of NGO Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) to help residents carry out cashless transaction without difficulty.

Earlier, JSS chairman P V Abdul Wahab had picked Nedumkazham for the model developmental programmes to be implemented under Centre’s Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana.

The NSS unit of EMEA College, Kondotty, also took part in the venture by holding classes on how to pay money digitally.  A tribal volunteer has been appointed to give necessary instructions to the residents on the new project.
