JD(U), JSS Issues to Come up at KPCC Meet

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Coinciding with the KPCC president V M Sudheeran-led Janaraksha Yatra’s conclusion in Ernakulam district, a high-level emergency  meeting of the Congress will be held in Kochi on Friday night.

The meeting has been convened to address various issues concerning the party and the UDF in the current political scenario as well as on a futuristic perspective, with the upcoming Assembly polls as the backdrop. A collective decision to address the issues centred around JD(U) and JSS Rajan Babu faction is also expected to come up at the meet.

The crucial meeting, scheduled from 8.30 pm at the auditorium of the Congress district committee office in Kochi, will be attended by Congress ministers, KPCC office-bearers, former presidents, parliamentary party office-bearers, MPs and MLAs, DCC presidents, KPCC spokespersons and heads of feeder organisations.

Apart from an assessment of  the impact of  Sudheeran’s yatra, the remaining leg of the exercise will be taken up in detail. Plans for finalising the arrangements to ensure a grand finale of the yatra on the Sanghumukham beach on February 9, where Congress national vice-president Rahul Gandhi will be addressing activists, will also be taken up at the meet.

A proposal that candidates for the Assembly polls should be marked well in advance for effective grassroots-level campaigning by all UDF constituents has reportedly caught the serious attention of the Congress high command.

Word has come from the Congress national leadership that as leading partner, the party should lend an ear to what small constituents in the UDF have to say.

With political heat soaring in the wake of  various jathas of political parties and an unpredictable trip for the solar and bar cases, the task of the Congress is cut out as the leading partner of the UDF.
