Duck farmers to  get compensation

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Animal Husbandry Minister K Raju has said that compensation would be given to farmers for all the ducks affected by avian flu that were culled and buried.

Compensation would be given not only for the culled ducks but also for the ducks that died before the culling started, he told the Assembly while replying to a submission. A compensation of Rs 200 would be given to a duck that was aged two months and more. The ducks that were less than two months old would get Rs 100 each, he said.

Raju said that as per the present report, an amount of Rs 6 crore was needed for providing compensation. As many as 3.5 lakh ducks were culled in Alappuzha and 65,000 in Kottayam district.
