Judicial commission to look into Kerala police lathi charge

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a major decision, the Kerala Cabinet on Wednesday appointed a judicial commission to look into the police lathi charge in connection with the stand-off between advocates and the media.

The government appointed retired Justice P A Mohammed to a single-member probe commission to look into the police lathi charge following a tussle between advocates and journalists in front of the High Court on July 20.

To be operated as per the Commissions of Inquiry Act, the panel will look into the incidents that led to the lathi charge near the north gate of the High Court. The retired judge has been appointed as the High Court communicated its inability to make available the service of sitting judges due to a shortage of judges.

Forest chief removed; SC Joshi new chief

In another major decision, Forest Department head B S Corrie has been removed from the post in an abrupt manner. The sudden decision comes close on the heels of the E P Jayarajan timber row. Corrie, PCCF and current head of the forest force, has been replaced by his batchmate S C Joshi, who’s currently PCCF (Vigilance). Corrie has been appointed Director, Kerala Forest Research Institute.
