Don’t compare Gita Gopinath with finance minister Thomas Isaac, says Pinarayi Vijayan

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday said that his financial adviser Gita Gopinath should not be compared with Finance Minister Thomas Isaac.

Responding to the Opposition’s remarks on the appointment of US-based economist Gita Gopinath, Pinarayi said that she should not be “belittled” in comparison with Isaac. In a lighter vein, Pinarayi said he was happy that the Opposition acknowledged Isaac as an “economic expert”.

“She (Gita) has been roped in to give advice. Once that advice is given, people, including economic expert Thomas Isaac, will consider whether that advice is needed or not,” he said. “Even if we are not economic experts, we all know what is to be done for the state. No big economic expertise is needed for that,” he said in what was seen as a dig on his Cabinet colleague.
