Mahija was lifted to safety, says Pinarayi

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has offered support to the family of Jishnu Pranoy, claiming the government has done all it could to provide them the justice they duly deserve.

MALAPPURAM : Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has offered support to the family of Jishnu Pranoy, claiming the government has done all it could to provide them the justice they duly deserve.

He was addressing the voters at Chelari as part of an election campaign for the LDF candidate in Malappuram,  on Thursday. However, the Chief Minister did not admit that the police have made a mistake by arresting and dragging Jishnu’s mother in front of the DGP’s office.

Pinarayi said the family has the right to meet the DGP in his office.

“The police arrested them to avoid law and order issue,” he said. He also denied reports that Mahija was dragged through the road, saying she was actually lifted by the police to safety. “Jishnu’s mother was not tortured. She was carried away by the police in their hands,” he said.

The Chief Minister said the police blocked the family as many others have tried to push through the crowd into the DGP office.

“It is lawful to stop those who create law and order issues in front of the office,” he said. “The government did not want to see another Jishnu in the state. We are doing all we can to prevent recurrence of similar incidents,” he said.
