Miraculous escape for Air India passengers during take-off from Calicut Airport

An Air India flight carrying 125 passengers and crew from Kozhikode to Dubai faced an engine failure and a tyre burst while taking off from Calicut International Airport on Monday.

MALAPPURAM: An Air India flight carrying 125 passengers and crew from Kozhikode to Dubai faced an engine failure and a tyre burst while taking off from Calicut International Airport on Monday. One of the tyres burst after the flight veered off its path during take-off following an engine failure and hit a light placed along the runway.

According to an officer at the airport, no casualties were reported and Air India authorities arranged another aircraft to ferry the passengers for their onward journey.    

The incident occurred by 11.30 am while the plane was moving along the runway for take-off. The scared passengers screamed when the plane started shaking violently following the tyre burst. The flight was immediately grounded and taken back to the parking bay.

The incident affected movement of flights from the airport. Four flights, heading to Delhi, Chennai, Manama and Doha, were delayed.
