Negligence: Panel records four private hospitals’ statements

The committee while submitting the report is likely to consider the report submitted by the District Medical Officer-in charge to the District Collector.

KOLLAM: A three-member expert committee constituted by the government and headed by Director of Health Services Saritha R L on Friday recorded the statements of four private hospitals in the district in connection with the death of a migrant worker Murugan from Tamil Nadu after being allegedly denied treatment. The committee which visited Meditrina Hospital, Kollam Medicity, KIMS Hospital and Azeezia Medical College here is said to have collected statements from the medical staff as well as from the duty doctors who were present on the fateful day. Joint Director of Medical Education Sreekumari and senior consultant, Department of Anaesthesia, Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital, Vipin G I are the other members of the committee. 

The committee while submitting the report is likely to consider the report submitted by the District Medical Officer-in charge to the District Collector. Health Minister Shylaja said appropriate action will be taken after the report was received.Meanwhile, the police are likely to seek legal opinion in the case over whether to file a case against the hospital management or the doctors who were on duty on that day.
