MALAPPURAM:A 21-year-old youth on Sunday evening succumbed to gunshot wounds at a private hospital here in Perinthalmanna. Two persons were taken into custody following the incident and a case registered, police said. Masin, 21, hailing from Kizhissery house at Manathumangalam is suspected to have been hit by a stray bullet fired from his friends’ air rifle, officers said.The victim was rushed to the hospital with a bullet injury on his neck by two persons believed to be his friends.
The duo left the hospital after getting him admitted and he died around 5.30 pm. Hospital authorities told police Masin was brought there on a bike and he was bleeding profusely from the wound.
Masin along with his friends reportedly went to hunt heron at a paddy field at Manathumangalam on Sunday afternoon with an air rifle. Police suspect he was accidentally hit by a bullet during the hunt. Perinthalmanna C I Saju K Abraham said the police are investigating the incident.
