THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Revenue Minister E Chandrasekharan has said the allegation of encroachment of wetland on the banks of the backwaters in Alappuzha district by Transport Minister Thomas Chandy will be probed.

He said action would be taken if the allegations are true. Chandrasekharan said no encroachment has taken place in the last 15 months after the government came to power. Oust Chandy: BJP BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan on Wednesday asked Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to oust Transport Minister Thomas Chandy who had encroached surplus land.

The Chief Minister who had asked E P Jayarajan and A K Saseendran to resign on moral grounds is reluctant to ask Chandy to resign as he was enamoured of Chandy’s riches and pomp, he said.

“Chandy is a blot on the Chief Minister’s claim he would take strict action against encroachers. The Minister, who has used MP fund to construct a road to his resort has breached the oath of office.

The LDF and UDF MPs had contributed Rs 10 lakh each for the project. The Chief Minister and his family should have turned down Chandy playing host to them at his resort in the wake of the allegations.

Kummanam asked the Chief Minister to direct Chandy to resign if he had any commitment to the common people.
