Women’s panel hits back at P C George

Women’s Commission chairperson M C Josephine has written to Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan expressing strong displeasure over MLA P C George’s statements against her and the Commission.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Women’s Commission chairperson M C Josephine has written to Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan expressing strong displeasure over MLA P C George’s statements against her and the Commission.Insulting the commission which has been constituted as per law amounts to insulting the lawmaking process, Josephine said. It is also a shame to Kerala society, she added. Demanding stern action against the MLA for his utterances, Josephine also urged the Speaker to take steps to ensure that references are not made in the Assembly.

The Women’s Commission chairperson had visited the actor who was assaulted in Kochi, in a bid to console her. This was after the actor wrote a letter to the Chief Minister expressing grief over the MLA’s utterances against her. The actor told the chairperson such remarks may affect the assault case.
The Women’s Commission had registered a case against George after finding the MLA’s statements in television channels and press conferences derogatory and an insult to womanhood.

Speaker flays ‘irresponsible remarks’
T’Puram:
Without naming MLA P C George, Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan on Thursday said “irresponsible comments” on the case from any quarters should be avoided. “Such remarks, which ridicule the actor’s resolve to go for a shoot two days after the incident, are highly inhuman,” he said. “If people in high posts justify such acts, it would amount to encouraging criminals,” Sreeramakrishnan said in a Facebook post.
