THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city police on Saturday registered a fresh FIR against former state police chief T P Senkumar for allegedly forging documents to draw full remuneration even after proceeding on leave for eight months. The case was registered by Museum police on DGP Loknath Behera’s instructions. Cantonment ACP K E Baiju will head the probe. Senkumar has been booked under non-bailable Sections - 465 (punishment for forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record) and 167 (public servant framing an incorrect document with intent to cause injury) of the IPC. The police are expected to record his statement soon.

This is the second FIR being registered against Senkumar. He had been discharged in the other case which pertained to purported hate speech made during a media chat.Meanwhile, Dr V K Ajithkumar of Government Ayurveda College, who allegedly issued the fake medical certificate to Senkumar, vehemently denied the charges levelled against him.  Ajithkumar told reporters the details provided in the certificate were correct and he had not tampered with the dates. “The Vigilance did not record my statements as part of the preliminary probe. What I have done is in accordance with the ethics of my profession,” he said.

Earlier, Chief Secretary Nalini Netto had  directed the DGP to file a case against his predecessor and to initiate a comprehensive probe. The government gave the recommendation following the Vigilance report which favoured a probe by the Crime Branch or local police. The Vigilance had done a quick verification based on the complaint from former Corporation councillor A J Sukarno. According to the complaint, Senkumar received `8 lakh as salary during the leave period by allegedly submitting forged medical certificates and prescription. He is accused of submitting eight medical fitness certificates from Ajit Kumar .

After being ousted as DGP soon after the LDF Government assumed charge, Senkumar had applied for leave on June 7 last year with half-salary on personal grounds and later submitted a request letter to the Chief Secretary citing the same. He had continued to request the same for the next eight months.Senkumar, who came back from leave as IMG Director, informed the government he was undergoing treatment for some ailment. But the Vigilance found he spent the time at Kollam and Ernakulam. This was proved by tracking his mobile phone signals. It was also found Senkumar was given just two medicines from the hospital during the eight-month period.
