Kerala police chief reiterates his words, then clarifies

In a statement issued through his office at Thiruvananthapuram, State police chief Loknath Behera denied he had confirmed Love Jihad was in Kerala.

KOCHI: State police chief Loknath Behera told reporters here on Saturday religious conversions were taking place in the state and the police had already received information on this. Express had on Saturday reported the Kerala Police had prepared a confidential report admitting the state had been witnessing ‘Love Jihad’ for some time. 

"'Love Jihad' is a mere terminology," Behera said.

"While the police are investigating a case related to conversion, the NIA has been probing other related cases," he said on the sidelines of an Onam celebration function for the differently-abled children organised by the Centre for Empowerment and Enrichment at POC, Palarivattom. 
Kochi Range IG P Vijayan was also present.

T'Puram: In a statement issued through his office at Thiruvananthapuram, Behera denied he had confirmed Love Jihad was in Kerala."In certain sections of the media, it has been stated the state police chief has ‘confirmed’ ‘Love Jihad’ is there in Kerala which is not correct and which has been totally misunderstood. What I have only said is we are keeping an eye on the allegations from various quarters radicalisation through conversion using various means is taking place in Kerala," said Behera.

"The honourable Supreme Court has ordered an enquiry on such an allegation in one case. So it is our duty to find out whether that is correct or not. Till now we do not have such data to confirm whether the so called ‘Love Jihad’ is prevalent in Kerala."
