THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rahul Gandhi, Congress president presumptive, will visit the Ockhi cyclone- hit Poonthura and Vizhinjam areas as he arrives on a day-long visit here on December 14. His itinerary in the state capital, includes addressing the postponed finale of ‘Padayorukkam’,the UDF campaign against the anti-people and wrong policies ofthe state government and the Centre. The Congress scion will perhaps be addressing his first public meeting here following his elevation as party chief.
The venue of ‘Padayorukkam’ finale, slated for 5 pm, has been shifted to the Central stadium from Shanghumukham beach. The finale was postponed from December 1,in view of adverse climatic conditions borne from Ockhi cyclone bout last week.After lending an ear to the woes of fisher folk in distress at Poonthura and Vizhinjam,from 10 am,Rahul Gandhi will move to the Kerala University Senate Hall,to address the birth centenary meet of the late Baby John,RSP veteran and former minister.
‘Public’s ire played big role’
Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala told reporters after the UDF liaison committee meet attributed the tremendous success of ‘Padayorukkam’ to the public’s mounting opposition to the wrong policies pursued by the state and the Centre, the confidence level and unity in the UDF had grown manifold.
