THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Taking serious note of infant deaths in the Attapady tribal belt with two deaths reported from Puthur in the last week alone, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has sought the immediate intervention of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to stem the trend.

The infant death toll in the region till date this year has risen to 14. In a letter to the Chief Minister, he also reiterated the demand for a comprehensive package citing that malnutrition, shortage of expert doctors and sufficient hospital facilities are aggravating the health issues at the tribal hamlets.‘’Last year, the death toll was eight. The possibility of more infant deaths in Attapady is mounting, owing to genetic disorders, malnutrition and lack of timely medical care,” he said.
