Chennithala moves Kerala HC to quash probe order against him

Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday moved the Kerala High Court seeking to quash the Vigilance Court’s order to conduct probe against him in a case related to appointment of Shanker Reddy

KOCHI: Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday moved the Kerala High Court seeking to quash the Vigilance Court’s order to conduct probe against him in a case related to appointment of Shanker Reddy as Vigilance director.

The Thiruvananthapuram Vigilance Court had ordered probe against Chennithala on a petition filed by Paichira Navaz alleging Reddy’s appointment was illegal. The petitioner alleged the previous government appointed Reddy as Vigilance director while he was holding the post of additional deputy general of police.

Dismissing the allegations, Chennithala said the facts alleged in the complaint did not constitute any cognisable offence warranting a preliminary inquiry.

According to him, the complaint was filed at the instance of some IPS/IAS officers with vested interest, as part of the ongoing feud between two groups of officers in the state.

“The complainant, Navaz, has no public interest at all as he is a person with criminal background. It is learnt from media reports that an extortion case and a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act-2012 are pending against him. He has filed 40 petitions within six months after the present VACB director took charge,” it was submitted.
