KANNUR: The restive town of Kannur in Kerala witnessed yet another political murder on Sunday with a BJP activist hacked allegedly by CPM supporters. He has been taken to a private hospital.

Police identified the man as 23-year-old Amal, an autodriver who is active with the right-wing trade union Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS). He was attacked by three men on a motorcycle at his house near the Naduvil Technical School in Kannur.

He suffered serious injuries to his head and shoulders and was taken to a hospital Taliparamba. Amal said in his statement that the assailants were CPM supporters.

Kannur has been witnessing bursts of political violence between left and right wing supporters. Things have been tense in the town since the arrest of a BJP activist in connection with  kidnapping and assaulting a CPM activist, Shakir.
