Hospital staff feed patient with cleaning lotion

The relatives of a senior citizen admitted to the ESI Hospital at Ashramam were in for a rude shock when they found the patient with burns in her mouth and throat.

KOLLAM: The relatives of a senior citizen admitted to the ESI Hospital at Ashramam were in for a rude shock when they found the patient with burns in her mouth and throat. It is said the patient, who was expected to undergo angioplasty on Tuesday, was handed cleaning lotion by the hospital staff when she asked for a cup of drinking water.

The relatives of the victim had filed a complaint with Kollam East Police alleging negligence in the part of the hospital staff.

When contacted, the hospital authorities said the incident was ‘unfortunate’ as the cleaning staff ‘accidentally’ placed a bottle containing cleaning lotion on the table besides the bed of the patient.

“The medical attendant who attended the patient mistook the bottle containing cleaning lotion as drinking water and gave it to her,” said a hospital staff. Her condition is stable, the staff said.
