THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Terming demonetisation as the ‘national disaster’ of the previous year, former Union Finance Minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram said its impact would continue to plague the country’s economy till the early months of 2018.

Chidambaram was delivering a speech on ‘The Impact of Demonetisation on Indian Economy’. The lecture was organised by the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Development Studies chaired by Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala.

Chidambaram said the demonetisation ‘adventure’ would push down the GDP growth of the country to six per cent. He termed Modi’s demonetisation decision as an exercise carried out by a person who did not understand the basics of economics or technology.
