THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: THE CPM Central Committee on Friday made a call to the Centre to lift all restrictions placed on the public on the withdrawal of money following demonetisation as the December 30 deadline has ended.

The government’s thrust on digital transactions, it noted, “is a bonanza for profit maximisation to international finance capital and corporates. Each digital transaction, the Central Committee said in a statement, carries a transaction cost which is an additional burden on the consumer and a source of profit to corporates.

The central committee demanded the Centre to remove all restrictions on deposits and withdrawals of funds from the cooperative banks. “If there is any specific case of malpractice against any bank, it should be proceeded against criminal charges, but the cooperative banking system which is the backbone of rural India cannot be destroyed,” the Central Committee noted.

It demanded urgent debt waiver for farmers who are suffering due to the disruption of normal agricultural activity, and payment of compenstaion to families of people “who lost their lives standing in line to change the wiathdrawn notes or draw their own money.”

Further, the committee demanded the Centre to people who lost their jobs and livelihood due to demonetisation and provide a tax rebate to small and medium enterprises. Asking the Centre to compensate the state government for loss in revenue, the Central Committee also wanted the Centre to desist from forcing digital transactions upon the public.
