Man stripped naked, thrashed, tied to post
THRISSUR: In a suspected case of moral policing, a man was stripped naked and beaten up by a group of people at Azheekode, Kodungallur, near here on Saturday night.
According to the Kodungallur police, Salam, 47, Pallipparambil, Menon Bazaar, Azheekode was beaten up by nine local people after finding him moving about suspiciously in the area. He was stripped, subjected to a public trial, beaten up for two hours and tied to an electric post, said the police, who later freed him and took him to hospital. When the police arrived, Salam was naked and tied to the post. “His video was shot and circulated through the social media,” said officials. Kodungallur SI Rajagopal said Salam’s statements were not matching and more questioning was needed to get a clear idea about the incident.
“All the assailants are absconding. We are searching for them,” he said. Salam lost three teeth and injuries are seen all over his body, said the police.
Police registered a complaint on Sunday after receiving a complaint from Salam. Officials said the group attacked him for visiting a house in the area regularly. In his complaint, Salam said he was beaten with iron rods. He is now undergoing treatment at Government Taluk Hospital, Kodungallur.
