Under fire, Kerala govt undertakes reshuffle of police force

THIRUVANATHAPURAM: Amid growing criticism against the State police, the LDF government in Kerala undertook a major reshuffle among the top brass of the police force. As part of the decision, R Sreelekha was transferred from the position of ADGP (intelligence) to ADGP (prisons) while B S Mohammed Yasin was transferred to the position of ADGP (intelligence).

In an order issued on Monday, Nithin Agarwal was appointed as the ADGP (crimes) while Rajesh Diwan was transferred as ADGP (north zone). Tomin J Thachankary who is facing vigilance inquiry has been transferred as ADGP (coastal police). K Padmakumar, who was the chief vigilance officer of KSEB was appointed as the director of Kerala Police Academy (KEPA).

Balramkumar Upadhyay was transferred and posted as the director of Kerala Police Housing Construction Corporation while Anil Kant who was the ADGP (prisons) has been posted as ADGP (police headquarters).

S Sreejith who was the Ernakulam range IG has been appointed as IG (crimes) while P Vijayan, who was instrumental in forming Student Police Cadet has been promoted as the Ernakulam range IG. Mahipal Yadav has also been posted as IG (crimes).

The State police has been under fire after a spate of incidents including 'encounter killing' of Maoists, custodial torture and inaction during attacks against Dalits.
