De-mon hits cash prizes, but not appeals

In what could be termed an impact of demonetisation,  the prize money for the winners at the state school youth festival will be distributed through banks.

KANNUR: In what could be termed an impact of demonetisation,  the prize money for the winners at the state school youth festival will be distributed through banks. Till last year, the winners were given cheques.
“This decision is on the basis of the particular situation that is prevailing now. It does not mean that it would be continued next year,’’ said Abdul Aziz, trophy committee convener.

Contestants have been asked to provide account numbers at the office. If a candidate does not have an account, the money will be transferred to the account of the parents, he said.

A contestant who won first prize with ‘A’ grade gets Rs 2,000, while those place in the second and third places with ‘A’ grade get Rs 1,600 and Rs 1,200 respectively.  A total amount of Rs 11,13,600 will be distributed among winners in the 232 contesting items.  Meanwhile, it seems demonetisation has not affected the number of appeals. The number of appeals, for which a candidate has to remit Rs 5,000, crossed 600 on the second day.
