THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau has given clean chit to ADGP R Sreelekha in its preliminary report over corruption charges against her while serving as Transport Commissioner. In the report submitted before the Vigilance Court here on Friday, the investigating agency said no action was recommended against Sreelekha and also Chief Secretary S M Vijayanand since there is lack of evidence to prove criminal misconduct or abuse of official position or any loss to the government or undue pecuniary advantage to anybody.
The Vigilance had filed the report after the court directed a probe, while hearing a petition by social activist Paichira Nawaz. It was alleged that Sreelekha as Transport Commissioner had misused her office and indulged in corruption. It was alleged that the Chief Secretary had kept in abeyance the action against Sreelekha to help her even though he had received a report recommending Vigilance inquiry.
The repor t sai d Sreelekha, while holding the post of Transport Commissioner, had not misused the Road Safety Fund. It said the proposal for renovating the Eswaravilasom Road using Road Safety Fund was submitted by the Easwaravilasom Residents Association and councillor of Jagathy ward before the then Mayor K Chandrika, and accordingly the Mayor submitted it before the road safety commissioner. Regarding installation of air conditioners at the Palakkad and Chittoor RTO office, the report said there was no evidence to show that Sreelekha was indulged in any corruption or malpractice. Palakkad office was renovated under the sponsorship of Rotary Club of Palakkad and that of Chittoor was sponsored by a councillor of Chittoor municipality. Hence there was nothing to prove any allegation in this, the Vigilance said.
