Four shops gutted in a major fire in Kozhikode

Twelve units of fire tenders, from Beach, Vellimadukunnu and Meenchanda Fire Stations were rushed to the spot.

KOZHIKODE: A major fire broke out at the Gulf City Bazaar near Mofusil Bus Stand in the city on Tuesday. According to police, the fire broke out at a building housing several mobile shops at around 12.30 AM. Four shops were completely gutted in the fire and more than 20 shops were partially damaged.

Twelve units of fire tenders, from Beach, Vellimadukunnu and Meenchanda Fire Stations were rushed to the spot. The fire was subdued by fire force personnel after two hours.

The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained. Forensic experts are expected to inspect the site later on Tuesday and the extent of the loss is yet to be estimated, police said.
