One injured in an explosion at Malappuram temple

MALAPPURAM: A low-powered explosive detonated with deafening noise at about 2 AM in the godown of an Ayyappa temple at Potoor, near Edappal, on Tuesday, leaving one person injured.

The police said that the temple authorities had stored a cache of gunpowder in the room and that might have gone off by some means.

The police added that the temple authorities did not possess the legal right to store the explosives in the godown.

According to Ponnani circle inspector, forensic teams, dog squad and bomb squad is believed to have taken stock of the situation.


The primary probe indicates that the explosive went off accidentally and there was no planned attack on the temple, added the officer.
