Not right for government to not intervene: VS Achuthanandan

CPM veteran and Administrative Reforms Commission chairman V S Achuthanandan on Friday criticised the Left government and the party in the law academy issue.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM veteran and Administrative Reforms Commission chairman V S Achuthanandan on Friday criticised the Left government and the party in the law academy issue. Putting the government in a tight spot, VS said it was not right for the government to not intervene in the strike.

He was responding to media queries in this regard. Asked about the CPM not making its stance on the issue clear, Achuthanandan said it was for the official leadership to say. Achuthanandan repeated his demand that the government should take over the surplus land with the academy.

Meanwhile, CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the party had not taken over the students’ strike at the law academy. The strike was being staged by the students’ organisations in the college, not by the party, the CPM state chief said. Kodiyeri alleged that the BJP was trying to make political gains out of the strike by portraying it as a political strike.
