Categorically denying allegations he took bribe to allot MCI nod to a medical college in Palakkad, BJP state general secretary M T Ramesh on Thursday said he would end his public life if his involveme

KOCHI: Categorically denying allegations he took bribe to allot MCI nod to a medical college in Palakkad, BJP state general secretary M T Ramesh on Thursday said he would end his public life if his involvement, however remote, is proved.

He said any agency, the party’s or the state’s, can probe the allegations.“It should find out three things: Whether I demanded money from anyone, whether they gave me the money and whether I used my contacts to get the MCI nod,” he said. “I cannot even allot a Nursery school,” Ramesh told reporters here.
“It is true the owner of the medical college in Palakkad met me around one-and-half months ago seeking my advice to get the MCI nod. I told the owner I could not intervene as the court and the Centre are the deciding authority,” he said.

On the allegations being a conspiracy against him as he is considered one of the main contenders to succeed BJP state chief Kummanam Rajasekharan, Ramesh declined to comment.“I have not seen the committee report and hence cannot comment on the document’s details. I was aware of an inquiry in the matter. I hope the matter will be discussed in party’s core committee meeting on Friday,” he said. “There is no vacancy for the state president’s post,” he said.He said this was the first allegation against him in his 25 years of public life.

VS seeks CBI probe
T’Puram:
CPM veteran V S Achuthanandan has demanded a CBI investigation into the corruption allegations involving BJP leaders. Having been trapped in a massive scam, the anti-corruption image of BJP leaders has burst like a bubble, Achuthanandan said. If a proper investigation is carried out the tentacles of this massive corruption may lead to BJP’s central leadership too.

To ensure investigation is not influenced by the Union Government and the party’s central leadership, it’s essential to carry out the probe under court supervision.  “If media reports are true, BJP leaders have admitted to one of them taking bribe to the tune of Rs 5.60 crore. The reports say it has come out following an internal party probe,”  VS said in a statement.
