THRISSUR: The Irinjalakuda MLA and CPM area committee member Arunan Master has found himself in the middle of a controversy after he attended an RSS programme organised in memory of a seva pramukh recently.

Congress too has sought an explanation from their local leader who presided over the programme. Arunan Master - accompanied by former Muriyad Congress block president and current block panchayat member Thomas Thathampilly - inaugurated the programme at the Variyattil temple hall in Urakam. He gave away free notebooks to school students and honoured those who had performed well in exams.

The MLA had recently goofed up with the facts and cited current cricketer Yuvraj Singh as being part of the 1983 World Cup-winning team led by Kapil Dev during an assembly session. The video went viral. However, the MLA attending an RSS programme has not gone down well with the CPM. Party members in the local, area and district committees criticised his action heavily.

The programme was conducted in memory of seva pramukh P H Shine. It is for the first time in the past nine years a CPM MLA and area committee member had inaugurated the programme. Though the MLA said he was unaware it was an RSS programme, following heavy criticism, the CPM has sought an explanation from him.

CPM district secretary K Radhakrishnan said explanation has been sought from local party members also. The DCC have also sought an explanation from Thomas Thathampilli.
