Don’t disclose probe details to the public: Kerala High Court

The HC has directed the State Police Chief to ensure the materials collected and the statements made by the arrested accused during the initial stage of investigation are not disclosed to the public.

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has directed the State Police Chief to ensure the materials collected and the statements made by the arrested  accused  during the initial stage of investigation are not disclosed to the public by the probe officers. This will help avoid misguiding or tampering with evidence during the course of investigation, the court stated.

In a case having no ‘ocular witness’, the questioning of the accused persons together and also separately in a skilled and scientific manner was indispensable for an effective investigation.

The court issued the order while disposing of a petition seeking to conduct the probe into the actor assault case under the supervision of the Additional Director General of Police.

The court directed the police not to avoid disclosing to the public the statements given by the arrested accused during investigation, particularly when the other accused were yet to be arrested.
