Girl dies as speeding car rams scooter

In continuing blood bath on the roads, a 11-year-old girl on Sunday died after the two wheeler on which she was riding pillion was mowed down by a speeding car at Pangod near Puthoor here.

Malavika of Vendar, Moozhykodu, near Nellivila, a Class VII student of Siddhartha School,is the deceased, police said.

Her eight-year-old sister Mayika and aunt Manju,35, were admitted to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital(MCH) with multiple injuries suffered in the mishap. Sandeep of Sasthamkotta, the driver of the car, was also admitted to a private hospital nearby with serious injuries.

“ We have taken two of the car’s six occupants into custody. One is in hospital and the other three had fled the scene. We have launched a manhunt for them. We can establish whether it is a case of drink drive only after the medical report is submitted,” said an officer attached to the Puthoor police station.

“According to people, the car was travelling at breakneck speed and the occupants were heard jeering and hooting just before it hit the two wheeler. Malavika and Mayika were riding pillion and Manju was driving the scooter,” he said.
