MALAPPURAM: The local police on Sunday arrested a 21-year- old woman in connection with a burglary case, registered at the Malappuram station a month ago.

Nimmi, 21, hailing from Puthurkkara in Thrissur, has been arraigned for the burglary  at a house at Ponmala. The police team recovered the eight sovereigns of gold the accused had sold at various jewellery outlets in Thrissur and Ernakulam.

Malappuram SI B S Binu said Nimmi,  a fashion designer by profession, allegedly committed the burglary during her visit to the house along with her friends. “We managed to recover the gold items she had disposed of at  major jewellery showrooms after scouring the CCTV footage. The ID proof she used for selling the gold items provide for a watertight case against the accused,” the SI said.

ASI Ashraf and CPOs, Srambikal Muhamed Shakkir, N M Abdulla, Mansoorali and Bindu, are the other members of the special squad which arrested the accused.
