NEDUMBASSERY : Salafi preacher Shamsudheen Palath, 42, who has been slapped with the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), was detained by the immigration wing of the Cochin International Airport Ltd at Nedumbassery on Thursday.

Shamsudheen Palath, against whom a look-out circular was issued at all airports across the country, was detained upon his arrival at the airport to board a Saudi flight (SV 747) by 10.20 am to Jeddah.
He will be handed over to the Nadakkavu police in Kozhikode as he has been detained based on a case registered with them. They had slapped UAPA on him for his alleged provocative speech at Karaparamba in 2014.

The UAPA was invoked based on a complaint filed by an IUML leader C Shukkoor, former government pleader and public prosecutor in Kasargod.  Though the case was initially filed in Kasargod, it was later handed over to the Nadakkavu police as Palath allegedly made provocative speech at Karaparamba in Kozhikode, which were available on social media and YouTube.
