THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Even as clamour for a leadership change in Congress is on, senior leader Vayalar Ravi came out rejecting such demands. Opposing Mani Shankar Aiyar, who sought leadership change in the wake of party's pathetic performance in the recent Assembly polls, Ravi said Mani Shanker was unaware of Grand Old Party’s tradition.

"Mani Shankar Aiyar doesn't know the Congress’ style of functioning. He joined the party one fine morning from the civil service. Congress has always had generation change in the leadership. That will continue in future also," Ravi told reporters here.

Coming out in support of former chief minister Oommen Chandy for the post of KPCC president, Ravi deemed him a deserving candidate. However, he said he will neither propose any names for the top post, nor will he make any public suggestions in this regard.

Responding to queries, the senior leader said caste and religious equations are a reality in Congress and the party cannot go forward without such considerations. "Caste and religion equations are a reality in India. We cannot go ahead ignoring these factors. Even the Marxist party takes decisions keeping this in mind. Obviously, such considerations will be there while selecting the new PCC chief," Ravi opined.
