Film crew face police action for using vehicle wrap

In a fresh turn of events, the police have decided to register a case against the owner of a vehicle that was used for the publicity of a Malayalam film illegally, by wrapping it with posters.

KOCHI: In a fresh turn of events, the police have decided to register a case against the owner of a vehicle that was used for the publicity of a Malayalam film illegally, by wrapping it with posters.
Defending the recent police action against the crew of ‘Angamaly Diaries,’ for flouting traffic rules, Rural SP A V George on Sunday said the Supreme Court had issued clear guidelines with regard to use of publicity materials on vehicles.

The SP also sought an explanation from the DySP for releasing the vehicle that was found to have been used in violation of rules. “We have launched a drive in the city suburbs to check similar violations by other motorists,” said George, and confirmed the police did not harass occupants of the vehicle.
The issue came to light after Lijo Jose Pellissery, director of the film, on Saturday came up with allegation the film crew was harassed by the police at Muvattupuzha during a promotional campaign in the town.  “The police stopped our vehicle without citing any reason and misbehaved with the crew of the film. They were harassed by those who are supposed to protect them,” said Pellissery in a video posted on his Facebook page, triggering a heated discussion on the social media.
Tito Wilson, who has played a character in the film, posted on Facebook, “artists are not criminals. Why are the police behaving like this.”

The police refuted the allegations, and clarified the vehicle was checked after violation of MVD rules was detected. The occupants of the vehicle were released after checking their identity.
Earlier, the Perumbavoor RTO had imposed fine on the film crew for using publicity material on the vehicle illegally.
