KOCHI:The state government on Wednesday clarified before the Kerala High Court the errors in the notice of arrest issued to the brother of P Krishnadas, chairman of the Nehru Group of Institutions, in the Lakkidi college case were the police officer’s gaffe.

The government said the sections noted in the notice were copied from the original FIR and mistakes seeped into it when the investigation officer added a section to it.
Police submitted the first information report was recorded by Additional SI Njaneswaran on February 27, 2017. There was no immediate arrest since the IPC Sections listed by the ASI belonged to the bailable category. Subsequently, the complainant, his parents and parents of other students, who faced similar experience at the college, alleged the probe
was not being conducted properly. They also alleged the FIR did not contain Sections that could put the accused in the dock.

In that scenario, the district police chief entrusted a new officer with the investigation. Non-bailable offences surfaced when the detailed statement of the complainant was recorded on March 14. Later they were added to the report and filed before the Magistrate Court. They were IPC Sections - 342 (wrongful confinement), 506(criminal intimidation, 294(B)(uttering obscene words), 365(kidnapping),384(extortion) and 34 (criminal act done in furtherance of common intention).
As per the fresh report, police found a Google alert regarding the signing in of the complainant’s email account from a new computer on January 3. Police said this revealed the complainant’s email was forcefully opened at the office of the accused. The statement of auto rickshaw driver, who took the complainant to Krishnadas’ office, was also recorded.
Krishnadas was arrested on March 20 and produced before the Judicial First class Magistrate Court-I, Wadakkancherry.
